Musings from the Music Mouse – August 2016

by UUFH

Music has a seasonality that’s not immediately obvious unless you’re a singer, instrumentalist, accompanist, or composer. Seasonality is also related to which particular instrument you play, and where you perform. Parents of an adolescent who plays the baritone horn, for example, know they can expect invitations to three concerts: the first about six weeks after the school year […]

Membership Committee News: What Does VAT Mean?

by UUFH

VAT is the acronym for Visitor Awareness Team, a relatively new “division” of your Membership Committee. The purpose of VAT is to help insure that our visitors are included in conversation during our “coffee and conversation” social time after worship services. This is where a new person may first experience inclusion… that vital link to feeling a part of our […]

One of the first to recognize this need and organize a response to it was UUFH member Connie Harris, who continued as a dispatcher until she retired this past fall. Another early UUFH member was the […]

The 2016 Yard Sale Was a Success!

by UUFH

Thirty-five volunteers worked together to promote, collect donations, sort items, price them, provide snacks, take mountains of recycle to the landfill, and of course, sell hundreds of items to make the 2016 Yard Sale a success. Our net proceeds totaled over $3,700, plus we raised $108 for the Backpack Program and sold raffle tickets for the Concert Series. […]

President’s Message – August 2016

by UUFH

Becca, Garrett, and I just returned from a four-day float trip on the French Broad River from Brevard to Asheville (hosted by local conservation group, Mountain-True). We were able to enjoy this wonderful river and the sights and sounds of nature; however, it was startling to see the difference in water clarity between the French Broad and the […]
