Vote NO on the Proposed Constitutional Tax Amendments
On November 3, 2026, North Carolina voters will decide on two proposed constitutional amendments that would change how state and local governments can raise revenue.
One amendment would permanently lower the constitutional maximum income tax rate from 7% to 3.5%. The other would require the General Assembly to establish limits on how much local governments can increase property-tax levies.
These changes could have long-term consequences for the public services our communities depend on. Property taxes are a major source of local government revenue, supporting services including public schools, libraries, parks, infrastructure, elections, and emergency services. State revenue also helps support programs and services that reach communities across North Carolina.
Why This Matters to Our UU Community
Our Unitarian Universalist values call us to affirm the inherent worth and dignity of every person, practice justice, equity, and compassion, and recognize our interdependence.
Strong communities depend on shared resources. When our neighbors need access to health care, food assistance, schools, libraries, firefighters, emergency response, roads, and disaster relief, we are all affected.
We believe that our faith calls us to put Love in Action: caring for one another, investing in our communities, and working toward a future where everyone has what they need to thrive.
Our North Carolina future is on the ballot.
