Call to Action: Week of September 20th

Let’s put our values into practice and love into action!

Call to Action UUFH Week August 20

Week of September 20: Put Love Into Action

Our Unitarian Universalist faith calls us to put our values into practice. This week’s action opportunities invite us to learn, participate, build relationships across differences, and strengthen the democratic institutions and public systems that help our communities thrive.

ACTION 1: Take the Pledge to Vote No on Proposed Constitutional Amendments. Our North Carolina Future is on The Ballot.

North Carolina voters will consider two proposed constitutional amendments on November 3, 2026. One would establish The Income Tax Cap (currently capped at 7%), a constitutional limit of 3.5% on the state income-tax rate. The Property Tax Levy Limit would require the General Assembly to enact limits on increases in local property-tax levies. This language does not include what the % rate of the levy would be. If it passes, the current NCGA will decide the rate after Nov. 3. Voters are being asked to lock in a tax cap, without knowing

These proposals will have significant implications for how state and local governments raise revenue and fund public services. NC’s provided services could lose BILLIONS in funding, Including Medicaid, SNAP, emergency & disaster services, public health, fire departments, libraries, roads, schools if the Property and Income Tax Amendments pass in November

Take some time to learn about the amendments, consider the potential effects on our communities, and make an informed decision at the ballot box.

This is an opportunity to put our UU values of democratic participation, justice, equity, and care for our communities into action.

ACTION 2: Join a National UU the Vote Phone Bank

As part of the Dogwood Faith Project, UU volunteers will participate in phone banks with North Carolina voters. The conversations will focus on Christian nationalism, its implications for democracy and pluralism, and the importance of ensuring that people of every faith and worldview have a voice in our public life.

This work connects with our UU commitments to religious freedom, pluralism, democracy, and the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Phone banks: 6:30–8:00 p.m. ET on Zoom
Training: Volunteers must attend a Wednesday training before participating in a Thursday phone bank.

Upcoming Dogwood Faith Project dates include September 22, September 29, and October 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, September 23 Training: 6:00–9:00 p.m. ET on Zoom

If you participate in more than one phone bank, you do not need to repeat the training.

ACTION 3: Revisit UUFH’s Call to Action

UUFH has already taken a public stand for democratic values through our Call to Action in Defiance of Authoritarianism, passed in February.

Take a few minutes to revisit the original Preamble, which explains the principles at stake, and then read the full Call to Action Resolution, which outlines concrete ways members of our congregation can support democracy and resist authoritarianism.

This is an opportunity to reconnect our current actions with commitments our congregation has already made.
