To feel oneself in the presence of evil is to sense an awful doom. To be in the presence of evil is more than a seemingly particular problem. To be in the presence of evil is a sign of a greater presence, a more pervasive spirit than can don many guises, a spirit that can strip us of all that we can say is ours. To be in the presence of evil is to be aware of a destructive force greater than our individual selves that threatens to permeate the very life of which we are a part, transforming good into evil. It is the concept of evil and its presence in the world today that I ask you to consider.
