I would like to embark with you on a two part journey on the history and faith of Universalism. At times it seems to me that many of us forget that we are Unitarian Universalist, and not just Unitarians. There are many ways by which we may achieve and discover a part of our identities, our sense of meaning and direction in life. One important way is through a continuous tradition. One’s family history, or national history may help. For me personally, a religious/philosophical tradition has been of great assistance in order for me to create a part of my identity. Mainly because I could freely choose it which is extremely important. I do resonate deeply with our Unitarian roots, but as I searched and studied the Universalist side of our tradition, its richness and depth, its messages and witnesses convinced me to make its heritage my own. Its message of unconditional love sustains me and nourishes me. Let’s talk about, think about, and hopefully feel something from this difficult but rewarding part of our history.
