We are thrilled Krissa has joined the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville!
For Krissa, joining UUFH feels like coming home. Born into the Unitarian faith, she was literally part of her congregation before she was born. Her parents were members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Poughkeepsie, New York, and she was enrolled in the Religious Education program before her arrival!
Raised in Hyde Park and Rye, New York, Krissa has spent a lifetime nurturing creativity and honoring people’s stories. Her background is in hand weaving, with studies at Franconia College in New Hampshire and Mikkelin Kotiteollisuuskoulu in Mikkeli, Finland. She also attended the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, where her passion for storytelling continued to grow.
An artist in many forms, Krissa is an accomplished quilter, taught herself the art of fabric dyeing, and discovered a love of writing personal essays while studying at Queens College in Charlotte. Several of her essays were recorded and broadcast on WFAE, and one was later featured nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition in 2000.
Krissa has also shared her gifts through compassionate service. As a specialty hospice volunteer in Charlotte, she interviewed patients who wished to preserve their life stories, creating audio recordings that became treasured keepsakes for them and their families.
She and her husband, Michael, are the proud parents of three grown sons and grandparents to five grandchildren. After moving to Candler in February 2025, Krissa began searching for a UU congregation where she truly felt at home. She discovered UUFH online, met with Rev. George, attended several services, and knew she had found the right community.
We are grateful that Krissa has chosen to make UUFH her spiritual home. Her lifelong commitment to Unitarian Universalism, her creative spirit, and her deep appreciation for listening to and preserving people’s stories are gifts to our fellowship.
