A Word from Don – Week 8

One of the few uplifting things about life in the era of COVD-19 is the outpouring of compassion for the most vulnerable among us. From the migrants working even harder and longer, to those with no home in which to shelter, we’re learning what it’s really like to live on the margins.

In response, charitable donations are up roughly twenty-five percent–nearly half of that total going to domestic programs and agencies. Clearly, there’s a link between being awakened to another’s suffering and the sharing of our bounty.

This is just a quick reminder for those of us who can give a little extra right now. While overall giving is on the rise, many service agencies – local, state and national – have cut programs and staff for lack of funding. The need is urgent, the options are many.

If you have a particular issue or provider in mind, do an online search; but before giving, make sure your donation is secure and goes where you have in mind. (One place to start is charitynavigator.org.)

Thanks for doing what you can to extend compassion to those who need it most.
