“Take Action! Healing Unconscious Bias in the Henderson County School System,” a free community program, will be held at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville.  The featured presenters are DeBorah Ogiste and Crystal Cauley.

The objective of the program is to suggest action items toward making the educational system in Henderson County equitable. All are welcome to attend, especially African American community educational leaders, School Board Members, parents, principals, and school resource leaders.

The first part of the program will consist of presentations on topics such as the positive and negative effects of school integration on the African American community, school integration in Hendersonville and how it affects the African American community, microaggression in the school system and why we need an African American Student Alliance.

Members of the audience will be asked to share their perception of the challenges in our school system today and how they affect the African American community.

For the next part of the program, the audience will divide into breakout sessions, with each group discussing a specific topic pertaining to bias in the schools.  The purpose of the discussions is to develop action items that can be used to create positive change.

Free childcare will be provided. Childcare reservations are required. Reservations for the program are appreciated, but not required. Contact DeBorah Ogiste at DeBorah@nullPeacefulMiracles.com.
