Labyrinth walking is an ancient meditative practice that involves following a single winding path to the center and back, symbolizing a journey of self-discovery and reflection. Found on every inhabited continent and dating back over 3,500 years, labyrinths are not mazes but tools for mindfulness, offering a clear path for contemplation and connection to the self.
A labyrinth will be created in the Sanctuary and Rev George will welcome you there from 2-5pm on January 1.
Please remain quiet in the Sanctuary and Lobby.
Getting Ready
- No shoes, please. Walk the Labyrinth in stocking feet only. When entering the Sanctuary, find a seat and please remove your shoes.
- Move into a quiet state. Before walking any labyrinth, it is best to quiet the active mind.
- Try stretching, deep breathing, or just standing still and being quiet before you begin your journey.
Walking the Labyrinth
- You may take a stone for the journey from the Ritual Table if you wish and place it (along with anything on your mind or in your heart) in the Water Bowl when you reach the center.
- Find the entrance. The entrance to the Labyrinth is facing the Sanctuary doors and is marked by votive candles.
- Find your own pace. How you walk and your tempo are unique to you. It is common to pass other walkers or to be passed by others due to our natural differences in walking speeds.
There is a single path in and out. The single path between the painted lines runs both ways. Those entering the Labyrinth may meet those on their journey out. Gently make room for others as you pass.
Enjoy!
