Message for Families from UUA….
With the arrival of winter’s low dark sky, communities around the world look to the miracle of light as a sign of rebirth and a source of hope. We celebrate the promise of new life and recommit ourselves to the protection of everyone’s right to his or her own radiant humanity. Celebrating the winter holidays, thus, is an excellent opportunity for Unitarian Universalist congregations to express their commitment to our Sixth Principle: We covenant to affirm and promote the goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all.
You’re invited to join Family Ministry as we continue to explore winter holidays and holy days and participate in lessons that draw on themes from Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, Advent and Epiphany, Christmas, Solstice, and the New Year.
This week our focus is on Hanukkah!
The Jewish Festival of Lights, or Hanukkah (Chanukah), celebrates two miracles: a great Jewish victory and a stunning surprise. “Hanukkah is a time to celebrate with family and friends, to eat holiday treats, to give gifts (especially to children) and to play the dreidel game.” Please join us this week as we learn more about this 8 day celebration and what it means to see the miracles around us.
Kudos to our VOLUNTEERS who made Cookie Baking possible last week!
Special Thanks to…
Peggy for the cookie dough and drop cloths, Leila, Stephen, Vicky, Ava Lee, Celeste, and George for help guiding little bakers, and Becky E and Amy for help cleaning up! Loving shout-out to Morgan for dropping off the rolling pin and wax paper that saved the day!
