Black History Month
- Sunday Morning Zoom –
- 10am – All Ages
Last Sunday we talked about Mardi Gras and the story of Stone Soup – both of which highlighted the importance of sharing and therefore celebrating food and resources in times of scarcity rather than hoarding out of fear. This week we are going to extend that metaphor to include the sharing of knowledge in the celebration of Black History! Join us this week as we explore present day black history in the making; and, more importantly, learn that there is no Black history and white history, there is only the History.
- Sunday Night Youth Group – 6pm – Ages 13-17
For the last few weeks we have been learning about the stuff of nightmares – legends from around the world such as the Vampire and Werewolf, and how they draw from real history. This week we are going to be examining a real nightmare that is currently experienced by thousands every day – Gang violence. We will learn about the first gangs, the crips and the bloods – why they formed, what influenced them, and why the violence associated with them has escalated so rapidly in the last 40 years. We will also take a look at what the American government and police system has done to try to solve the problem.
