10 Things We Can Do To Reduce the Greenhouse Effect

To reduce the greenhouse effect, you can change your home energy use, transportation habits, diet, and waste management.

Home energy use

  • Use renewable energy: Switch to solar or wind power
  • Improve energy efficiency: Weatherize your home, install energy-efficient light bulbs, and adjust your thermostat
  • Get an energy audit: Find out how to use less energy for heating, cooling, and lighting

Transportation

  • Drive less: Avoid driving by carpooling, walking, or taking public transit
  • Consider your travel: Buy local products to reduce transportation emissions

Diet

  • Eat less meat: The energy needed to produce meat is much higher than plant-based food
  • Throw away less food: Plan meals and store leftovers properly

Waste management

  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle: Reduce the amount of waste you create, reuse items, and recycle old items
  • Compost: Compost leftover fruits, vegetables, and yard waste

Other actions Plant trees, Conserve water, Use non-toxic household products, and Consider purchasing carbon offsets.
