How To Be a Good Zoomer

1. Familiarize yourself with the zoom controls that will be at the bottom of your screen. (See image above).

2. The first control is Mute. Depending on the meeting, you might automatically be muted upon entry. Click on it to unmute yourself if you need to talk.

3. If you don’t want to be seen during the gathering, do not click on the
Start video icon. If you want to be seen, then click on Start Video, but remember to click on Stop Video if you step away from your computer.

4. The Chat icon allows you to communicate with everyone in the “meeting.” You can also use the chat to ask for help.

5. Hosts might share their screens with you. This allows them to show a video, document or even a whiteboard that can be written or drawn on.

6. Please do not record the meeting. One of the hosts will be doing that for you–if it is necessary.

7. The Reactions icon allows you to send a clap or a thumbs up–a great way to send good vibes to the speaker or performer.

8. If you would like to speak, make sure you use the Raise Hand action. Click on Participants (bottom control) and then look to the side to see a panel with all the participants listed. At the bottom, click on the Raise Hand icon. This will alert the hosts. Or, if the group is small enough you can raise your hand in the video. When you are called upon, you’ll need to unmute yourself (bottom controls, far left).

9. During Beloved Conversations you’ll have a chance to share your reactions to the sermon as well as check in with others in a small group setting. It’s always good to establish how you want to share so that you are not talking over one another. Remember, in big groups it is better to be muted. It small groups you can all be unmuted so that you can hear people’s laughter and reactions.
