As the Fourth of July holiday nears, you may recall the other name for the holiday, Independence Day. Our Social Justice Outreach Team efforts – under the UUtheVote banner and aligned with the UU Justice Ministry NC – continue with stay-at-home efforts for Election 2020.
These efforts are the current focus of your Congregational Project on Climate Justice. Kitten Bulen is leading the efforts of 40 some UUFH volunteers who have already sent 1500 postcards to purged NC voters (Reclaim Our Vote/NC NAACP partners) and made census reminder phone banking calls (partnered with You Can Vote). More such efforts are starting soon – more postcards, texts, and phone calls. These efforts provide training and scripts as well as connecting us to targeted voters. If you’d like to join the effort, contact Kitten.
You Can Vote has updated the excellent resources on their website to reflect the recently signed NC legislation on voting. You can check your registration status, register online, obtain registration and Absentee Ballot Forms, key voter deadline dates, and more on one site — youcanvote.org. You can request an Absentee Ballot now to be mailed by your Board of Elections in September and still choose to vote during the early voting period or on November 3rd depending on the pandemic restrictions and your comfort level.
Scheduling note: SJOT will next meet (via Zoom) on August 5 at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to participate. This meeting will be our annual planning retreat for our goals and activities in 2020-2021. Contact Charlotte Corrigan for more information.
