Sending You Love through the Internet
Quarantine
When there are no more meetings to schedule dates to plan Friday nights to look forward to who are you? When the laundry is dry the dishes are clean and no one is hungry who are you? When the bottles are empty the pills are all gone. and everyone’s asleep in the quiet of dawn who are you? … When nothing is left between you and your soul but the fog on the bathroom mirror why are you scared?
Have you ever wondered why there are so many holidays in December? Or why we imagine monsters in the darkness? For me these are connected questions.
As former pack animals, we are born with an innate fear of solitude because it is from our collective that we draw our strength.
This December will be harder than others as we must isolate ourselves from family and friends to cull the spread of disease and save the lives of our most vulnerable. We must actively fight off the fear of isolation with insistent and powerful love for our fellow (hu)man.
I write this letter as a reminder that you are not alone! If you need anything, your UUFH community is here for you.
May the darkness grant you serenity and time for self contemplation.
And may the new year bring you additional light, warmth, and hope.
