Nora’s Musings:

It Anti-Bullying Month so this week the kids are grappling with monsters, both real and imagined.

If I asked you to draw a monster what would you include? – pointed teeth and horns to match? Would you draw inspiration from fiction like Frankenstein’s Monster, or the Orcs from Lord of the Rings? Or would you turn to history for your inspiration? – to Hitler, Stalin or Osama Bin Laden? Maybe you would rather reference the biblical snake in the garden of Eden, or Hades, the Greek God of the underworld.

The Point being that how we view “monsters” affects how we see the world. To quote a song by Eric Church – “The wolf hunts a hungry man and the devil a lonely heart. A minefield of bad decisions lay hidin’ in the dark. Greed stalks, sickness steals, and pride lays a wicked trap You can’t avoid ’em all, no, you gotta trust me on that… ‘Cause I’ve learned that the monsters ain’t the ones beneath the bed.”

So, once you’ve finished your drawing, ask yourself – “What makes a monster, a monster?

And see how the world changes.
