Here’s the news you’ve been waiting to hear: Our outdoor, in-person worship schedule is set! Some details:
- The first service will be held in the UUFH parking lot on May 23rd, at 10:30 AM;
- Due to already scheduled events, the services will be held on the following dates: May 23rd; June 6th; then each Sunday through at least August. No in-person services on May 30th (Rabbi Rachael, recorded) or June 13th (UUFH Annual Meeting);
- Hybrid Platform: This is a fancier way to say the weekly recorded services will continue. Life under COVID has created a community and format of its own, and we want to continue that ministry. Due to the logistical demands of two services on two platforms, the online services might be tweaked a bit. But rest assured we’ll figure things out.
- Keeping things simple: as with the online format, the in-person services will be shorter than before COVID. Don’t expect a full-blown experience.
Guidelines for our gathering:
- Face coverings are required. Extras will be available if necessary;
- Distancing (six feet minimum) is required between parties of more than three;
- Sanitizing gels will be available;
- Elbows, smiles and warm words are how we’ll greet each other;
- Those with lightweight or lawn chairs please bring them with you. If you have extras to loan for the service, please bring them too;
- Same with umbrellas for shade. At this point there are no canopies;
- We ask you avoid using restrooms for now, so plan accordingly;
- We will no doubt face some wet weather, and need to cancel a service. We’re working on a plan for notifying everyone. More to come;
- Per denominational recommendations on airborne droplets, we won’t be singing for the time being (be patient…);
- We’re also holding off on any food or drinks before, during and after the services;
- We now have an outdoor sound system, but it might take a few services to get things right – especially with Kanuga Road so close. (Be patient…)
- A touch-free offering will be lifted at each service. Your support will be greatly appreciated;
- Nora will be developing makeshift children’s activities for most in-person services;
- Don’t forget any guests that come our way. If the sanctuary is our “living room”, the parking lot is our “patio”;
- Please be extra patient and gracious with all this. Some parts are simple, some aren’t, and there’s probably a whole bunch of stuff we didn’t see coming. The point is to be together.
