Racial Justice Action 04.22.2021
Allies for Racial Equity (ARE) has initiated a Racial Justice Forum series on the last Monday of each month from 1 to 2:30 pm. We are excited that Helen Bishop will be leading our April 26 discussion.
“Ware lectures are a tool we have at our disposal. They are delivered each year at General Assembly, and the speakers are invited by the President of the UUA. The first person Rev Susan Frederick Gray invited in 2018 was Brittany Packnett, an African-American woman whose approach was bold and demanding. In her lecture, she reminded us that Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. had been a Ware lecturer in 1965. King called on Unitarian Universalists to become “moral guardians of society.” Packnett asked us to consider how we had done in that role. She also called on our faith community to become accomplices rather than allies in racial justice work. On April 26, from 1 to 2:30 pm, we’ll discuss how we might want to respond to what she had to say.”
