“A Life in Two Worlds: Dad is Black, and Mom is White”

Mary  will help us reflect on Dr. King’s dream, not just as aspirations, but having a biracial grandchild.

Mary Bracey was born and raised the youngest of 5 children just down the road in Greer SC.  Over the years, she has worked in many varied occupations including horse farm worker,  salesperson, waitress, manager of a plant nursery, manager of a hardware store,  landscaper, life coach, YMCA customer service director, Director of Religious Education, addiction counselor, and caretaker for a special needs individual and the elderly.

She enjoys acting, singing, storytelling, and most of all, spending time with her family. Mary’s pride and joy are her three daughters, one son, and her grandson. She and Don, her best friend and partner in mischief, have been married for two years and together close to ten. She feels blessed in so many ways and is looking forward to many more years of adventures.

  1. Mary, your service was wonderful. Now there’s another multiracial child I’ll be thinking about when I’m trying to figure out how to help keep everyone safe from angry police officers who think it’s OK to push people around, mistreat people, or lock people up. I’m so grateful your grandson doesn’t know about the mess we’re own with regard to race and justice – may it remain so for as long as possible. What a gift you gave us – thank you SO much.
