Stories bind us together and inform how we move forward. They mark us in ways we can’t see. The only problem is that stories aren’t real. Even so, they are the only real thing when it comes to interacting with each other. Our stories inform us about how we should behave and what we should do whether we realize it or not. Our unspoken stories are powerful. How do we deal with our unspoken stories?
Speaker; Donna Washington
Donna Washington is an award-winning internationally known master storyteller, artist-educator, and author who has been performing and teaching for thirty-six years. She is renowned for her work in storytelling and education with a focus on literacy and social emotional development. She is renowned for her work with both children & adults. She shares tales from poignant & funny fables about the human condition to racy relationships stories to spine-tingling tales of terror. She has been featured at numerous conferences, festivals, schools, libraries, theaters and other venues around the world including Canada, Peru, Argentina & Hong Kong. During the pandemic, she presented over two hundred shows & workshops virtually online. In 2020, she co-founded the non-profit organization Artists Standing Strong Together with Master Storyteller Sheila Arnold for which they won a 2021 Oracle Award. In 2023 she received the Coleen Salley Storytelling Award.

“You Can’t Make Something Out of Nothing”
Musician; Michael Jefry Stevens
Mr. Stevens is a accomplished pianist, composer and “Steinway Artist,”. He has released over 80 CDs and composed over 340 works for both large and small ensembles. An active band-leader for over 40 years, his music spans jazz and modern musical styles. Michael lives in Black Mountain and is a frequent performer and popular jazz piano teacher in the WNC area. We, once again, welcome Michael to UUFH as our guest pianist |
We gather for worship and fellowship each Sunday with a service at 10:30 followed by coffee hour. Dress is casual. Parking is plentiful. And our building is accessible.
Family Ministry / Sunday School: All Ages meet in Sanctuary at 10:30 AM Children go to classrooms at 10:45 after the “Story for All Ages.” On the lower level, we have a nursery for infants and toddlers, and we have classes where children and youth learn about and explore faith, religion, justice, and community.
