Sandy’s talk will help break into the isolation many grievers experience and give words to its profound and mostly unspoken life journey. She will be guiding us through what we know about the grieving process. She will explore the many symptoms of grieving and share with us what neuroscience is revealing about the grieving brain, She will offer practical suggestions for both individuals and our congregation about how best to cope with what has been called “one of the most challenging experiences life has to offer.”
Speaker: Sandy Jones
Sandy Jones is a native of Atlanta, she has lived in Brevard for over 20 years. She is active with the Unitarian Universalist congregation of Transylvania County. Her bachelor’s degree is from Furman University “down the hill,” and her master’s from Appalachian State “up the hill” — both in Psychology.. She is the author of 12 books on pregnancy and parenting babies and young children that have been published worldwide.
Her talk is entitled “Blessed are They Who Mourn” (a phrase taken from the Beatitudes that ends with “for they shall find comfort.”
With the devastating toll on families from the pandemic, hurricanes, floods, wildfires and mass murders, it’s high time that we seriously look at the subject of loss and the grieving that follows. By bringing grief out into the open and giving it words, hopefully we can find comfort..
Sandy has spent the past four years intensely studying the effects of loss and grief on families while writing her latest book on grieving.
