Rev. Michael JS Carter , guest speaker
Many in our culture view the atheist (and the agnostic) as if they had some sort of disease or virus that one doesn’t want to catch; as if somehow their morals or ethics are somehow beneath so called “believers” and theists, or that these morals or ethics are non-existent. I imagine this is because of the belief that this country is a so-called ” Christian Nation.” The topic of whether or not this is a “Christian Nation” is beyond the scope of my talk, but I do want to discuss what I label as “The Spirituality of the Atheist” and how much it benefits UUism to have the courageous souls in our denomination. Let’s explore.
Rev. Michael JS Carter is a board certified chaplain (retired) and an anti-racism/diversity consultant. He currently serves as the minister of the UU Congregation of the Swanannoa Valley in Black Mountain.
This is a homecoming of sorts for Michael. Most of us already know him well as a former member of our Fellowship
