UUFH OUTREACH COLLECTION:  Diversity Books Project ENDS OCTOBER 30

October 2 marked the launch of our first UUFH Outreach Collection for 2022-2023.

Social Justice Team member and Allies for Racial Equity leader, Judy Bonner, spoke about the DIVERSITY BOOKS PROJECT that she introduced at UUFH.  This initiative has extended beyond UUFH to raise money from the larger community and through grants.  Money raised provides books that feature the many cultures, distinct traditions and realities of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to local public schools and organizations.

This project helps nurture the potential of children in Henderson County by providing literature that reflects and honors their lives and experiences (“I see me!”).  We believe that our community will be enhanced by helping children appreciate themselves and others.

The October 2 Collection Plate was dedicated to this Outreach Collection as will your designated donations through October 30.

Note: All money donated to this project from Oct. 17 until the end of the month will be MATCHED by an anonymous donor. Be sure to specify “Diversity Books Outreach” on your check.

Donations may also be made on the UUFH website “Outreach Fund” choice.  (During our Outreach Collection period, please do not use the online “Diversity Books Project” choice as this will complicate tracking of the proceeds.)

We were made for this moment.
Let’s UU the Vote!

Voting is in full swing and across our state and country we are already seeing huge voter turnout! But there is much more work to be done! In these final days, we need everyone in the game, phone banking text banking, canvassing and contributing to safety and fairness at the polls.
The future of abortion access, LGBTQ+ rights, racial justice, climate justice, and our democracy in on the line.
Beloveds, we were made for this moment. Let’s get out there and UU the Vote!
Rev. Lisa

Are you Ready to Vote your Values?!
Early Voting is now through Saturday November 5th! During early voting, voters may cast their ballot at any early voting site in their county, and can also take advantage of same-day voter registration. This is different from Election Day, (Tuesday, November 8th) when you must already be registered and can only vote at your assigned polling place. To check you registration, polling place and sample ballot, visit NCSBE.gov
You can go to Vote411.org to get non-partisan information about the candidates on your ballot. And If you need more info about how local elected officials like your DA, Sheriff and County Commissioners impact the issues you care about, visit You Can Vote’s resource Why Local Elections Matter. And remind everyone you know that elections in North Carolina are CLOSE and every vote matters.  In 2020, over 30 races in NC were decided by one vote or less (literally a coin toss)
