SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM (SJT) MEETING

Our next monthly meeting is Tuesday, August 1 at NOON via Zoom

The Social Justice team is a self-selecting group open to all UUFH Members and Friends.  We welcome all active participants.  Whether your social justice interests are one or many, you can contribute to our SJT efforts.  Please contact Charlotte Corrigan if you plan to attend this meeting.

The Social Justice Team has submitted 3 reports for the Annual Meeting document package: 

  • Social Justice Team  — ANNUAL REPORT 2022-23
  • Exploring Diversity through Literature – Annual Report June 2023
  • Final evaluation of our Congregational Project, Allies for Racial Equity June 2023

In addition, our new Congregational Project,Green Sanctuary: Climate Justice, included in the document package, was ADOPTED at the meeting.

We meet the first Tuesday of each month from 12-1:30pm via Zoom.

2022-2023 OUTREACH COLLECTIONSUPDATE

Our UUFH Bookkeeper, Ed Law, reported a late contribution to WCK bringing the total  for the May collection to $2089.25 and the annual proceeds to $11,087.25

  • October 2022 — Diversity Books Project $2018
  • November – Youth Hunger (FTKC & Backpack) $1919
  • December – Guest at Your Table /UUSC          $ 900
  • February 2023 – Dream Scholarships    $2143 
  • April – Migrant Education Project $2018
  • May – World Central Kitchen $2089.25

Our new season of 6 Outreach Collections begins in October; meanwhile, the Board will hold several of 6 monthly “Pass the Plate” Collections.  Both collection series put our UU values into actions in our local community and beyond.

FRIDAY ACTION HOUR 

Every Friday at 11:00 UUs from across the state gather to recap the past week and take action on the issues impacting our state and country.  In the coming month, we’ll be focusing on the upcoming municipal elections and will also keep the pressure on our elected officials to better promote the HOPE program.  And we always have good music to help us feel the justice movement in our bones!
