2023-2024 OUTREACH COLLECTIONS:  UPDATES

October OUTREACH COLLECTION for MOUNTAIN TRUE

In our first Outreach Collection for 2023-24, your generous donations for Mountain True totaled $1896.07 Thank you for your generosity!

NOVEMBER OUTREACH COLLECTION: YOUTH HUNGER  FEED the KIDS & BACKPACK

On Sunday, November 5 your UUFH Social Justice Team we began a new Outreach Collection with our ongoing inclusion of a collection for Youth Hunger.

In this time of year when we celebrate our blessings, food insecurity remains a significant issue for many in our community.  We all recognize that hungry children struggle not just to grow strong healthy bodies but also to learn and to develop social skills – not the futures we would wish for any of them.

Providing additional nutritious meals and snacks is the goal of both Collection recipients:  our Youth Hunger Collection is split between the Feed the Kids Coalition and the Flat Rock Backpack Program.  Your donations have provided funding for these 2 organizations each year for more than a decade.

If you would like your offering to go to these programs, please write “Youth Hunger” in the memo line of your check. Or, if you are giving cash, please use an envelope (provided in the Foyer), write your name on it, and mark it “Youth Hunger.” You may also contribute through your Vanco account via the UUFH website. Click “Donate” at the top of the website home page and select “Outreach Fund.”

Thank you for your generosity!

These collections and the Board’s “Pass the Plate” Collections put our UU values into actions in our local community and beyond.

City of Hendersonville COMPREHENSIVE PLAN SURVEY

Take the Gen H Survey!  ENDING SOON

The Gen H survey will be live from now until November 14th.

This community survey is an important and easy way for you to help shape Hendersonville’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan. We encourage you to provide your feedback and encourage your friends, coworkers and neighbors to do the same.   More information can be found on the Hendersonville City website.

NEW:  Comprehensive Plan OPEN HOUSE – NOVEMBER 20

The city of Hendersonville is inviting the public to an open house as part of the Gen H Comprehensive Plan development process on Monday, Nov. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. in Kaplan Auditorium at the Henderson County Library, 301 N. Washington St. Participants can drop in during that time to meet city representatives and provide their input on the future of Hendersonville.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Review the existing conditions analysis which includes an overview of Hendersonville’s demographic data, geography, transportation network, land use patterns, community character, and much more
  • Participate in planning exercises to help prioritize community needs
  • Take home information about the plan to share
  • Share ideas for the future of Hendersonville, including parks and greenways and downtown
  • Enjoy light refreshments

The input received from residents (through the survey, stakeholder meetings, mapping exercises, Council Comp-versations, and Open House) is combined with the existing conditions to set the framework for recommendations on how the City should plan for the future.

Kids are welcome to attend the open house. Activities will be provided, along with some Gen H Comprehensive Plan giveaways. Free parking available in the library lot.

The Gen H Comprehensive Plan is Hendersonville’s strategy for how growth and development are managed over the next 20+ years. The plan will be used as a tool for prioritizing resources and future planning efforts. City Council can also use the Gen H Plan as a guide for budgeting, strategic planning, and making policy decisions. To learn more about the comprehensive plan, please visit www.hvlnc.gov/GenH
