GS2030 UUFH Congregational Project:  CONGREGATIONAL READ

We are looking forward to continuing to learn and grow together, and we invite you to join us in our Congregational Read:  All We Can Save: Truth Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine Wilkerson. Discussions and other activities will start after the holiday season. Stay tuned for details!

UPDATE: The book is an anthology of short chapters so it’s easy to browse and read chapters of special interest to you. The link above takes you to the project website where you can purchase the book directly as well as link to an excerpt. Rev. Terry Davis is planning a service based on the book on Sunday, February 11.  Add the book to your reading list now.  Stay tuned for additional updates and details!

2023-2024 OUTREACH COLLECTIONS:

DECEMBER  OUTREACH COLLECTION:

Guest at Your Table – Unitarian Universalist Service Committee

On Sunday, December 3, your UUFH Social Justice Team begins a new Outreach Collection with our annual Guest at Your Table Collection supporting the work of UUSC – the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.

This year we are delighted to have a guest speaker for the service, Julian Sharp.  Julian is the Senior Associate for Congregational Support at the UU Service Committee.  In this role, he works to strengthen relationships between the UUSC and UU congregations.  Julian manages the Guest at Your Table program, UUSC Sunday, and other congregational philanthropic initiatives.

To direct your offering to these programs, please write “GAYT” in the memo line of your check.  Or, if you are giving cash, please use an GAYT envelope or GAYT box.  You may also contribute through your Vanco account via the UUFH website. Click “Donate” at the top of the website home page and select “Outreach Fund.”

Thank you for your generosity!

These Outreach Collections and the Board’s “Pass the Plate” Collections put our UU values into actions in our local community and beyond.

Following the start of our Guest at Your Table / UU Service Committee Outreach Collection at the December 3rd service, the Social Justice Team and Family Ministries will co-host a Soup Sunday event.

UUFH volunteers have signed up to bring  soups ranging from Gumbo to Chicken Noodle.  In addition, there will be a variety of breads and desserts.  Gluten Free and Vegan/Vegetarian options will be among the contributions.  JOIN US downstairs after the service!

VIGIL FOR GUN VIOLENCE VICTIMS AND FAMILIES

On Wednesday, December 6th, the 11th Annual National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill. The multi-denominational event brings together survivors of gun violence, victims’ family members, concerned citizens, faith leaders, lawmakers, and leaders of gun violence prevention organizations including Everytown for Gun Safety and the Riley Howell Foundation.

In that spirit, we will be holding a local event at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 6th. We will be remembering the victims, survivors, and communities that have been impacted by gun violence in 2023.
