GS2030 UUFH Congregational Project: CONGREGATIONAL READ
We are looking forward to continuing to learn and grow together, and we invite you to join us in our Congregational Read: All We Can Save: Truth Courage and Solutions for the Climate Crisis edited by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katherine Wilkerson. Discussions and other activities will start after the holiday season.
UPDATE: The book is an anthology of short chapters so it’s easy to browse and read chapters of special interest to you. The link above takes you to the project website where you can purchase the book directly as well as link to an excerpt. Rev. Terry Davis is planning a service based on the book on Sunday, February 11. Add the book to your reading list now. Stay tuned for additional updates and details!
2023-2024 OUTREACH COLLECTIONS:
DECEMBER OUTREACH COLLECTION:
Guest at Your Table – Unitarian Universalist Service Committee
On Sunday, December 3, your UUFH Social Justice Team began a new Outreach Collection with our annual Guest at Your Table Collection supporting the work of UUSC – the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee.
This year we were delighted to have a guest speaker for the service, Julian Sharp. Julian is the Senior Associate for Congregational Support at the UU Service Committee. In this role, he works to strengthen relationships between the UUSC and UU congregations. Julian manages the Guest at Your Table program, UUSC Sunday, and other congregational philanthropic initiatives.
To direct your offering to these programs, please write “GAYT” in the memo line of your check. Or, if you are giving cash, please use an GAYT envelope or GAYT box. You may also contribute through your Vanco account via the UUFH website. Click “Donate” at the top of the website home page and select “Outreach Fund.”
Thank you for your generosity!
These Outreach Collections and the Board’s “Pass the Plate” Collections put our UU values into actions in our local community and beyond.

OPPORTUNITIES for ACTION
Medicaid Enrollment Action Hour: Friday, December 15 at 11:00am
Following this month’s enactment of Medicaid Expansion, it’s time to get to work, spreading the word to hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians who are now eligible for healthcare. This week, Rebecca Cerese, Health Policy Advocate with the NC Justice Center will join us to talk about the campaign to enroll North Carolinians in Medicaid! Join via this Zoom Link: https://zoom.us/j/91029655107 and sign-up for the weekly Friday Action Hour promo email here.
December 22nd we will be writing Letters to the Editor in partnership with the North Carolina Coalition for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. Following December’s rallies at the Governor’s Mansion, we will call on Governor Cooper to commute the sentences of all 138 individuals on death row in North Carolina.
December 29th – Our Annual Year in Review Action Hour. We will recap all the issues we took action around in 2023 and look ahead to 2024!
January 5th – When the Lights Went Out in Moore County. One year ago, a domestic terror attack incapacitated utilities to 45,000 households for 5 days in Moore County, NC. At least one person died as a direct result of this malicious act, and many more residents were harmed. To date, no one has been held accountable for this attack and nothing has been done to prevent future attacks. Our partners at Blueprint NC teamed up with the Laura Flanders Show (PBS) to break this silence. This Friday, we will watch the brand new 30-minute episode that tells this story.
You’re Invited! Winter Solstice Celebration
Let’s celebrate sacred light! UU Ministry for Earth is excited to invite you and your communities to our third annual Solstice celebration.
Wednesday, December 20, 7 pm ET
The Winter Solstice occurs when Earth’s axis tilts away from the sun, making it the shortest day and longest night of the year for those living in the Northern Hemisphere. Join UU Ministry for Earth the evening BEFORE the Winter Solstice for music, reflection, meditation, and spiritual grounding.
On this longest night, we will be featuring the work of the Energy Democracy Project and sharing a portion of our offering with them. Let’s work for light for all on the longest night of the year. Our service is part of the larger arc of Clean Energy as a Human Right being led by Side with Love.
