The Social Justice team is a self-selecting group open to all UUFH Members and Friends. We welcome all active participants. Whether your social justice interests are one or many, you can contribute to our SJT efforts. Please contact Charlotte Corrigan for the Zoom link if you plan to attend this meeting.

DISCUSSION – final session
The Final Session will be led by Charlotte Corrigan on APRIL 14. Sessions are at noon in the UUFH Sanctuary (after service and after you’ve enjoyed your cup of tea or coffee).
QUESTIONS for our April 14 session “ADVOCATE” section:
- How do you want to be of use in the climate movement/for a life-giving future?
- How does climate impact your civic/political participation?
- What insights in this section challenge your thinking about what we need to or can do?
- What do you see that’s working to foster more, deeper democracy?

Every Friday at 11:00 UUs from across the state gather to recap the past week and take action on the issues impacting our state and country. In the coming month, we’ll be focusing on the upcoming municipal elections and will also keep the pressure on our elected officials to better promote the HOPE program. And we always have good music to help us feel the justice movement in our bones!

UU the Vote Launch: RECORDING & SLIDE SHOW links
| Over 700 folks joined our UU THE VOTE 2024 LAUNCH. Thank you. Check out the slide show and recording of the launch below. We are joining State Action Networks and local and national partner organizations – and it will require more of us. As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson with UU Justice NC reminded us, “It is time to go deeper. For most of us, postcarding should only be the appetizer before the meal. This year our moral legacy is on the line. PRIORITY REGISTRATION
LWV: VOTER REGISTRATION TRAINING WORKSHOP, June 1, 3-4:30 pm
As part of our UU the Vote efforts, the UUFH Social Justice Team is hosting a workshop for VOTER REGISTRATION TRAINING presented by a trainer from the Henderson County League of Women Voters. This workshop will be held on Saturday June 1 at 3 pm in Fellowship Hall. The League is offering UUFH attendees priority registration in advance of more public announcements of the workshop.
If you want to register in advance, Charlotte and/or Kitten Bulen will also be taking names at Coffee hour on the April 14.
UUFH & NAACP Trip to International African American Museum,
Charleston, SC — May 4 and 5, 2024 UUFH SJT and the NAACP are co-sponsoring and subsidizing this trip to IAAM.

As part of our congregation’s commitment to work for racial justice, equity, and reconciliation, UUFH will be hosting a weekend trip to Charleston, South Carolina on May 4 and 5 in partnership with the Henderson County NAACP.
In addition to visiting the new International African American Museum, we will have a community dinner and attend Sunday worship services at Mother Emmanuel Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the southern United States. All transportation aboard a luxury coach is included. There will be some free time to explore on your own. We have negotiated a good rate with an area hotel.
The cost of the trip, including museum admission and the Saturday dinner, is $100 per person; $50 per student. Scholarships are available. Save the Date – MAY 19:
EMPTY BOWLS Fundraiser for BACKPACK
BACKPACK is one of 2 recipients of the Social Justice Team’s Youth Hunger Outreach Collection held each November. This fundraiser is another opportunity for you to contribute to this community effort: have a soup-based meal and take home a pottery bowl from local artisans.
The 2024 event will be on May 19; seatings are 12 to 2 pm or 4-6 pm at St. John in the Wilderness Social Hall.
SJT members will be selling tickets on Sundays in May at Coffee Hour. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 for a family of two adults and children under 12.
