UUFH has a strong history of involvement in the UU the Vote Campaigns in 2020 and 2022.  This requires many hands – not just those of the SJ Team. members.

Good news:  We have 2 new volunteers, Richard Lottenberg and Elizabeth Ritchie, who are NOW working with Kitten Bulen to spearhead UUFH efforts for 2024.

As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, UU Justice NC,  reminded us:

“It is time to go deeper. For most of us, postcarding should only be the appetizer before the meal.  This year our moral legacy is on the line.  And if we can go further than postcarding, we have a moral responsibility to do so.”

NC UU the Vote LAUNCH of 05-14-24

Over 90 people – the largest in UU Justice NC history – joined this Zoom launch primarily for campaign leaders and congregational liaisons.

UUFH:  INTRODUCTION TO OUR UU THE VOTE PLAN FOR 2024

UUFH was introduced to our plans for UUFH at the service on May 26.  Kitten Bulen introduced our new UU THE VOTE leaders, Richard Lottenberg and Elizabeth Ritchie.

“UUFH Democracy in Action” Handouts were distributed:

MAY OUTREACH COLLECTIONthrough May 31

TrueRidge Crisis Management Fund for Migrant Workers

May is the month for the Outreach Collection to benefit the Crisis Management Fund for Migrant Workers at True Ridge.

This Fund has been active for about 2 years and has been invaluable in many crisis situations.  Examples include:

  • The fund has provided money for emergency medical treatment when none was available from local organizations.
  • Money was quickly obtained to hold rental property as it goes as fast as it comes on the market.
  • We are now working with a family whose mother is in hopes of getting some help for a botched leg amputation and they are living in one small room with only a one burner hotplate for cooking and no transportation until they can get tags and license plate.  We are trying to help them get items to make their lives a little better. The father has been in the hospital but normally is a migrant agricultural worker.

100% of the money goes to help migrant workers.

If you would like your offering to go to this program, please write “Crisis Response Fund” in the memo line of your check. Or, if you are giving cash, please use an envelope (provided in the Foyer), write your name on it, and mark it “Crisis Response Fund”.  You may also contribute through your Vanco account via the UUFH website. Click “Donate” at the top of the website home page and select “Outreach Fund.”

Thank you for your generosity.

UUFH – NAACP Trip to CHARLESTON – IAAM and more

Report on trip to Charleston SC

Bright and early on the morning of May 4, 31 adults and 9 students, mainly from UUFH and NAACP, left the parking lot of UUFH for a life-changing visit to Charleston SC to visit the new International African American Museum and other venues including a Sunday service at Mother Emanuel Church, a visit to Charleston’s Unitarian Church and graveyard, as well as a bus tour of “Slavery to Civil Rights”.  A highlight for many was a deep sharing circle on Saturday evening.

A group of relative strangers developed into an amazing group who shared deeply and want to continue the relationship that began on our trip.  In the words of one of the participants “The beautiful historic town of Charleston. The majestic UU church and its beautiful as well as peaceful final resting garden, which held such rich history. Also our spirit filled worship service at Mother Emmanuel historical church, including the privilege of partaking of communion was beyond amazing. I felt surrounded by love. My cup simply ran over this past weekend!!! I’m thankful for our meals together and times to get to know one another. Please include me in the next circle meeting! “

The success of this trip was due to many factors including the generous financial support of UUFH Social Justice Team, the NAACP, Rev. Terry Davis, and others who made donations for scholarships to help those with limited resources to attend.
