SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM (SJT) MEETING

Our next SJT monthly meeting will be in August (date TBD).

The Social Justice team is a self-selecting group open to all UUFH Members and Friends.  We welcome all active participants.  Whether your social justice interests are one or many, you can contribute to our SJT efforts.  Please contact Charlotte Corrigan for the Zoom link if you plan to attend this meeting.

GS2030 (Green Sanctuary Renewal) is included in our meetings per the Fellowship’s approval of our UUFH Congregational Project for 2023-2024

The meeting on June 4 was our last of this fiscal year.

We will then hold an Annual Planning Session (June 28) to plan for next year’s activities.  Your inputs are welcome.  Contact any team member or join the team to carry out your suggestions.

UUFH has a strong history of involvement in the UU the Vote Campaigns in 2020 and 2022.  This requires many hands – not just those of the SJ Team. members.

Good news:  We have 2 new volunteers, Richard Lottenberg and Elizabeth Ritchie, who are NOW working with Kitten Bulen to spearhead UUFH efforts for 2024.

As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, UU Justice NC,  reminded us:

“It is time to go deeper. For most of us, postcarding should only be the appetizer before the meal.  This year our moral legacy is on the line.  And if we can go further than postcarding, we have a moral responsibility to do so.”

UUFH:  INTRODUCTION TO OUR UU THE VOTE PLAN FOR 2024

UUFH was introduced to our plans for UUFH at the service on May 26.  Kitten Bulen introduced our new UU THE VOTE leaders, Richard Lottenberg and Elizabeth Ritchie who gave a quick overview of our Plan:

UUFH Democracy in Action

We launched our UUFH Democracy in Action Plan on May 26.  Our Plan sets out a course of actions from now until the General Election with lots of options and actions to choose from beyond Postcards. The first and easy thing to do is attend the Friday Action Hour from 11am – 12 noon every Friday organized by Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, Executive Director, UU Justice NC. The LINK can be found in the UUFH Justice Workers NEWS . Every time you complete an action, fill out a report slip and drop it in the box in the lobby. Our goal is 300 actions by November 5. Additional Democracy in Action Plan copies and report slips are in the lobby.

Our first 16 points were earned by our 16 UUFH-affiliated attendees at the June 1 League of Women Voters Training session.   Our next Action item is to attend weekly Friday Action Hour sessions:
