The SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM is a self-selecting group open to all UUFH Members and Friends. We welcome all active participants. Whether your social justice interests are one or many, you can contribute to our SJT efforts. Your inputs are welcome. Contact any team member AND join the team to help carry out your suggestions. GS2030 Green Sanctuary Renewal is included in our SJT meetings per the Fellowship’s approval of our UUFH Congregational Project for 2024-2025.
FEBRUARY OUTREACH COLLECTION: DREAM SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The Dream scholarship which was founded by UUFH is a collaborative project of three churches in Hendersonville: UUFH, Saint James Episcopal and First Congregational Church to aid undocumented college students. Once again, we have a FANTASTIC result: your contributions totaled $3426.77.

Trans Day of Visibility, Monday, March 31
From our friends at Equality NC “Every year, on March 31, Trans Day of Visibility (TDOV) celebrates trans and nonbinary people, honors their resilience, and calls attention to their challenges. But in 2025, visibility alone is not enough. The urgency of the situation demands that we take action to protect and uplift trans lives both online and in the real world.
This year, Equality North Carolina has created The Trans Day of Visibility 2025 Toolkit —A resource-packed guide to help you advocate for trans safety, fund trans-led initiatives, and take meaningful action beyond TDOV.”
UU Common Read
Rev. George would like to invite you to participate in this year’s UU Common Read. The book is Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families edited by Peggy Gillespie. A monthly four-part discussion series will be scheduled for March through June: Launching with a sermon on 03-23 and book sessions following services and lunch/coffee break on these Sundays: 03/30, 04/13, 05/18 and 06/01. It’s not required to attend every session.

Henderson County SOCIAL JUSTICE NETWORK — Events & actions
This is a new group formed in December 2024; contact Charlotte Corrigan for more information if you’d like to join their efforts.
The group is led by Bob Miles of Trinity Presbyterian Church and meets on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month, 6:30pm at Grace Lutheran Church (Hwy 64 at Blythe)
Your Helping Hands are Needed —– Calling all Spanish speakers!
If you speak Spanish, (even haltingly) your community needs you! Through the Henderson County Social Justice Network, organizations that serve Latinos (Safelight, El Centro, True Ridge) are seeking volunteers to be on an “on-call list” who can help as interpreters, translators, and providers of transportation.
This may involve assisting with medical appointments or even running basic errands (grocery shopping, picking up children from school, etc.) for those who are afraid to leave their homes.
