NOVEMBER OUTREACH COLLECTION:  YOUTH HUNGER

On Sunday, November 3, your UUFH Social Justice Team begins a new Outreach Collection with our collection for Youth Hunger.

Food insecurity has long been a significant issue for many in our community – one now worsened by the spreading hardships and economic disruptions of Helene.  Hungry children struggle not just to grow strong healthy bodies but also to learn and develop social skills.  In Henderson County, 47% – nearly half – of all children are on the free lunch program at their schools.  Many of them do not have access to a hot meal from Friday school lunch until Monday morning school breakfast.

Providing additional nutritious meals and snacks is the goal of both November Collection recipients: our Youth Hunger Collection is split between the Feed the Kids Coalition and the Flat Rock Backpack Program

UUFH has supported these 2 organizations with donations, leadership, and volunteers from their beginnings over 15 years ago.

You can learn more at these websites: http://feedthekidscoalition.org/ and http://stjohnflatrock.org/backpack-program.

If you’d like to join other UUFH volunteers,  see or contact Charlotte Corrigan (FTKC) or Liz Curtis (Backpack).

You can contribute throughout November by specifying Youth Hunger on the memo line of your check. If you choose to donate cash, specify Youth Hunger on the envelope (found in the foyer). The Donate button on our website is also available; select “Outreach Fund” from the menu.

Coming in December:  GUEST AT YOUR TABLE Outreach Collection (UUSC)
