MLK DAY OF SERVICE– Monday, January 18, 2021

January 18 is the federal holiday to celebrate the life and work of Rev. Martin Luther King.  Unfortunately, local events have been sidelined by the pandemic.

Our MLK Day of Service will necessarily look different this year.  Several youth groups are safely gathering to bag rice and beans, as is our custom.  These will then be delivered to the Storehouse for distribution from their food bank. The Day of Service is a nationwide commemoration that asks us to think of the MLK Day holiday as an opportunity for more than just a day off and to give something of ourselves to our neighbors and community.

All are invited to drop off non-perishable food or money to help efforts to provide food to members of our community who have been particularly affected by the coronavirus and the accompanying financial distress.

Drop off locations on January 18 only:

[1]   the entrance to the St. James Parish Hall (766 N Main St, Hendersonville) between 1 – 2:00 pm.

[2]   the Storehouse (1049 Spartanburg Hwy, Hendersonville) between 1:30 and 3 pm.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast Fund was established to promote understanding, collaboration and unity between all members of the Henderson County community by supporting the annual MLK, Jr. Unity Breakfast.

Due to COVID-19, a traditional breakfast as held in years past will not be possible for 2021. However, the MLK, Jr. Unity Breakfast Committee has put together a virtual event themed, “The Time Is Always Right To Do What Is Right”.

The production will share some history about Henderson County, and illustrate how our community has worked in unity to grow throughout the years. It is the Committee’s hope that participants will be able to take some of the history showcased in the production, and consider how our community can grow, through collaboration and unity, and move forward from the challenges of 2020 moving into 2021.

Stay tuned to CFHC’s website and social media! This page will be updated on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: January 18, 2021, at 9 am with a link to access the virtual event.
