JUSTICE WORKERS EMAIL LIST
For several months, SJOT has been discussing ways to more efficiently and quickly communicate with Justice Workers across UUFH including SJOT, ARE, Voter Justice, and Climate Justice groups so that all receive the latest updates of what’s happening, what’s coming and ways to do justice actions without needless duplication or omissions.
We’ve created a new merged list “Justice Workers”. The decision to unite was recommended by the leaders of the various groups and approved by our UUFH Social Justice Team; our debut message was issued on Monday, April 12.
The more that we work together, the greater impact we have.
To join the Justice Workers list, contact Charlotte Corrigan hcorrigan@nullmsn.com with your request to OPT IN.

THE 8TH PRINCIPLE AND RACIAL/CLIMATE JUSTICE
UUMFE (UU Ministry for Earth) adopted the proposed 8th Principle in spring 2018, recognizing there is no climate justice without racial justice and the dismantling of white supremacy. The 8th Principle Learning Committee supports UU groups in deepening anti-racism.
The 8th Principle states: “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
The 8th Principle was created out of the recognition that the original 7 principles were not enough to directly address and dismantle individual, institutional or systemic racism in our UU culture and beyond. Visit the UUMFE website (uumClimate Justice Congregational Project Updatefe.org) to read more about the interconnections between racial justice and climate justice.
UUJMNC: OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTION
Action(s) of the Week –
from Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, Executive Director Unitarian Universalist Justice Ministry of NC
Tell your State Legislators to Vote NO on the Anti-Trans Bill SB 514. This bill is a cruel attack on transgender youth that would prevent them from taking steps to affirm their gender identity. Take Action Here
We join others across our country in mourning the loss of Daunte Wright, who was killed by police in Brooklyn Center, MN this week. Please consider making a donation to support Brooklyn Center community members who are directly impacted by police aggression and fighting for justice for Daunte Wright. The mutual aid fund is organized by UU justice leader Paige Ingram who lives just five blocks from the Brooklyn Center Police Building. Donate Here
Let us renew our commitment to understand the call to “Defund the Police.” If you missed last week’s National UU event on Community Health and Safety we’ve got you covered. Here is the recording of the powerful conversation with Rev. Jason Lydon, Janine Gelsinger, and Laura Wagner about how the system of policing and mass incarceration have shaped their lives.
FRIDAY ACTION HOUR
Join UU Forward Together every Friday at 11:00am for Friday Action Hour. Gather in community to recap the week and take action on issues impacting our state and country. Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/91029655107
Migrant Worker Gift Bags
“If you ate today, thank a migrant worker.”
Soon many migrant workers will arrive here in Henderson County. They will be coming in trucks and vans, weary from previous work and the long trip, carrying their possessions in a plastic bag. At this point, receiving a small gift with a welcome card showing they are not looked upon with contempt or dismissed is enough to put a smile on their weary faces. Heart of Hendersonville Immigration Task Force is coordinating a “Let’s Get Started” drive to provide some key necessities. Collection sites are at UUFH (Office porch) or Heartwood Refuge
For more information contact Anne Backer, Heart of Hendersonville Immigration Task Force and member UUFH Social Justice Outreach Team (acbacker@nullcopper.net or 828 697 0641).
