Join UU Justice NC and UUs across the state for this Zoom gathering. We’ll be sending messages of gratitude to those in our lives who are creating a more loving and just world. We’ll also be using the Indigenous Solidarity Network‘s Rethinking Thanksgiving Toolkit to gain tools to help us center our values this Thanksgiving. The Zoom link is: https://zoom.us/j/91029655107.

Rethinking Thanksgiving Toolkit

Developed by the Indigenous Solidarity Network. This toolkit was primarily developed to help white people discuss Thanksgiving with family, friends, and communities, but many of the resources may be helpful to people of other racial identities as well as multi-racial communities. Content includes practicing land acknowledgements, reflecting on settler privilege, and learning more about the foundational myths behind Thanksgiving.

REDISTRICTING MAPS UPDATE

NC Legislative and US Congressional district maps were approved by the legislature – over the protests of minority Democrats and under the shadow of guaranteed legal challenges. The nonpartisan Princeton Gerrymandering Project has rated all three maps with an “F” grade.

Lawsuits are already underway against these gerrymandered maps. UU Justice NC will be keeping us informed of news and actions seeking fair maps.

CLIMATE JUSTICE CONGREGATIONAL PROJECT

Having received UUFH approval to continue with this vital project, we can now move forward with some on-hold activities and seek new opportunities for congregational education and action, including use of UUA/& UU Justice NC resources, and continuing UUtheVote advocacy, with a focus on fair redistricting and voter rights.

We’ll add a new emphasis on the 8th principle per a separate congregational vote held at our Annual Meeting.

The 8th Principle states: “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

For more information about the 8th Principle, see 8thprincipleuu.org/background.  This UUA site is organized by responses to these key questions:

what is the origin?

why now?

why single out racism?

what is beloved community”

what does it mean to be accountable?
