OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTION
UU Justice NC – “LETTER TO THE EDITOR” Action Hour: Friday, December 17, 11:00am.
Together, we’ll call on Governor Cooper to pardon Howard Dudley, Michael Parker and Glen Edward Chapman, three men who have already been exonerated after being imprisoned for at least 15 years. During the event, you’ll receive a briefing and all the tools and resources you’ll need to write to your local papers. You can register here.
CALL TO ACTION:
Tell Senators Tillis and Burr to Pass Build Back Better!
Call Sen. Burr – 202-224-3154 and Sen. Tillis – 202-224-6342.
Basic Script – We urge you to vote YES on the Build Back Better Act. This bill would make historic investments in child care, home care, affordable housing, education, health care and address climate change. We are counting on you to bring these life-changing new policies and investments home to our state.
CLIMATE JUSTICE CONGREGATIONAL PROJECT
Having received UUFH approval to continue with this vital project, we can now move forward with some on-hold activities and seek new opportunities for congregational education and action, including use of UUA/& UU Justice NC resources, and continuing UUtheVote advocacy, with a focus on fair redistricting and voter rights.
We’ll add a new emphasis on the 8th principle per a separate congregational vote held at our Annual Meeting.
The 8th Principle states: “We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association, covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”
For more information about the 8th Principle, see 8thprincipleuu.org/background. This UUA site is organized by responses to these key questions:
what is the origin?
why now?
why single out racism?
what is beloved community”
what does it mean to be accountable?

DEMOCRACY NORTH CAROLINA
Message of 12-10-21
There has been a lot happening this week around elections and election protection. Here’s what we know and what we’re keeping an eye on in the upcoming weeks!
The North Carolina Supreme Court has suspended candidate filing for all offices and moved the 2022 primary elections to May 17, 2022!
This is a result of ongoing redistricting litigation, and the Court has requested a resolution for the case by January 11, 2022. Like many of you, we are already deep in our get-out-the-vote, local election board, and voter protection work, so are eager for some firm dates. As of today, the primary will be in May until we hear otherwise. We will keep you updated on any changes as they happen.
