Diane Baker, the Facilitator for this group, explains more about its purpose and mission. The group meets on Thursdays, 11:00-12:30pm, in the Fellowship Hall. All are welcome.
The participants of the Power of Intention Group are grateful to have the opportunity to meet in the Fellowship Hall at UUFH for the past several months. Now that we’ve been here for a while, we find that we need to let people know what we are about! Here’s a snapshot of our focus and a description of how we approach it each week.
The goal of the Power of Intention Group is to bring healing to ourselves and our world through the use of focused group thought. Our work began as an experiment using the protocol in Lynn McTaggart’s The Power of 8 book, and has evolved from there as we’ve refined what works best for us. McTaggart recommends 8 people ideally to work together in a circle, but if we have many more than that, we simply make more circles.
We start the meeting by going around the circle, giving our first name and stating the intention we would like help with healing during the meeting. This intention will usually evolve during the meeting, as we hear others’ insights and are inspired by Spirit to see new perspectives. It is not necessary to keep restating this intention, as we know that Spirit is aware of what is in our hearts. We also try not to get stuck in recounting our “stories” as we state our intentions. We are interested in moving forward in a healed state, not in reliving the way things have been before. If we truly want healing, we need to let go of the unhealed state.
Ms. McTaggart demonstrates remarkable consistency in influencing the healing process for specific individuals and scientific experiments. In contrast, our group selects a person, relationship or situation for healing, and energizes an intention that asks the Divine for the highest good of all concerned using the greatest degree of Love. We ask that our egos “stand aside” to allow Spirit to decide what result would be for the greatest good. We do not abdicate our responsibility to contribute. We just stay out of Spirit’s way as far as deciding what is best for all. This has resulted in a tremendous growth in trust for regular participants in the group.
Once we have agreed upon an intention, one person volunteers to sit in the center of our circle to hold the focus of the intention. Everyone else brings their chairs in close enough to touch either the person (on their shoulder or foot, most often) or someone else who is touching. We have also found that the intention process works without any physical touch, so no one is required to touch if they so choose. But all are asked to pull their chair in close.
After following a process called “Powering Up” described in Ms. McTaggart’s book, everyone in the group mentally releases any attachment to a specific outcome and simply asks God or Spirit to bring the highest good for all concerned to the person or situation. We hold this space in silence for 8 minutes, after which we go around the circle and share our experience, if we choose. Anyone can “pass” if they prefer not to share. We typically accomplish 3 intentions during each meeting.
Since the group’s inception in January of this year, we have witnessed miracles brought by Spirit for physical healing, peaceful passing of those who were in transition, healing of family relationships, help in selling houses and getting jobs, healing of anxiety and depression, transformation of a culture of abuse in a women’s correctional facility, and overall spiritual upliftment in the lives of all those who send energy for the healing of others.
It has been an honor to facilitate this group, and this process has worked well for us. I would love for more people to join us and to add to the group intentions for healing each week. Also, I support others’ preference to form their own groups and do things their own way. Everyone is invited to come to our meetings in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday mornings at 11:00 am – 12:30 pm. There is no fee, although any donation to help pay for the room rental is appreciated.
