UU the Vote: UUFH/SJOT Postcards

Volunteers from over a dozen UU congregations are working, in partnership with Reclaim Our Vote and the NAACP, to send 8,000 postcards to North Carolinians who have been purged from the voter rolls. Because of the commitment shown by UUs in North Carolina, UU Forward Together (UU Justice Ministry of North Carolina) and our network of congregations have received $24,000 in grant money from the UUA and the UU Funding Program to support our UU the Vote efforts. This money will help support our direct actions through partner organizations and congregations and fund increases to staff hours.

UUFH is significant part of this effort. On Monday, June 1, 1500 postcards were distributed in kits to about 30 UUFH volunteers recruited by SJOT’s Kitten Bulen. All kit materials – postcards, pre-printed address labels, postage stamps, pens, and scripts – were shipped to us by UUJMNC. The grant money covers the costs of this effort ($0.35 just in postage per postcard). Kitten and volunteer, Regina Hutchison, assembled our kits for distribution.

Pandemic or not, we’re working to UU the Vote.  Allied with UUJMNC, SJOT and UUFH can partner with non-partisan organizations such as the NAACP, Reclaim our Vote, Democracy NC, and You Can Vote to register voters, provide voters with educational materials and get folks to the polls – physically or via absentee ballots.
