UUFH Democracy in Action Plan: August-September 2024

We launched our UUFH Democracy in Action plan in May.  Our goal is 60 actions each month.   For the month of July, we completed 46 actions.

We need each of you to complete at least ONE one-hour action in the next month.

As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, Executive Director, UU Justice NC, reminded us: “Together, we are on track to make this year the largest activation of UUs in the history of our state, and it’s because of you.”  Let’s come together as a UUFH congregation and experience the collective JOY of making a difference in our beloved community.

Please choose 1 or more of the following actions:

  1. Writing postcards with Reclaim Our Vote. The focus this year is on early voting.  We have been assigned addresses in Cabarrus County.  Collectively we are committed to writing 3000 postcards divided into 30 postcards per packet.  We need for participants to do a minimum of 30 postcards and more than that for those who are inspired. We are putting together the packets this week. You can pick up one or more of the first 50 packets after the Sunday service on August 25.  We will reserve the second 50 packets for our 50 member Postcard Writing Party scheduled for Saturday, September 21,    2pm – 4pm in Fellowship Hall.    All postcards will be mailed out October 1-15
  1. Attend the Friday Action Hour at 11 AM which occurs EVERY week with Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson, Executive Director, UU Justice NC, and UU members across NC.  Each meeting includes a review of key national and local issues and current NC legislative actions.  You can access this by going to the zoom link (same every week) provided in the weekly UUFH Eblast.  Zoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87452791684.
  1. You can write letters with Vote Forward to encourage voters to register and vote.  Writing personalized, handwritten letters to voters is a proven and effective way to help increase voter turnout and strengthen our democracy.  You can write letters right now from your home.  Letter writing is a great way to turn anxiety into action! You can   access this action by going to www.VoteForward.org.

Our UUFH work is prophetic but not partisan and is rooted in our values through advocating and participating in the electoral process in ways that create more equity and affirms the worth and dignity of all people. Whatever actions speak to your heart and spirit, we invite you to participate alongside thousands of Unitarian Universalists who will be working together.  Our plan is to connect with each other and experience the collective JOY of making a difference in our local community, in the state of North Carolina and in our country, it is the moral imperative of this time.  Remember to report your actions on a slip of paper and place it in the box in the lobby or email your actions to Elizabeth Ritchie at elizabethritchie1506@nullgmail.com
