UUFH Pledge Drive Kickoff February 2024

The UUFH Stewardship Committee began the 2024-2025 campaign with a service lead by Rev Terry Davis that in included an affirmation & testimonial from new members Joni & Wayne Sams.

Organizer Sue Kuehn has big Thank you’s for the help she had.

HOW MANY people does it take to produce an ice cream social and brownie bake-off?  A whole UU community!

Many thanks are due….

Kitchen help, manning the gluten-free/dairy free table, scooping ice cream, and some great strawberry preparation thanks go to Morgan and Ryan Martin, John Runkel, and Laura Schifferli.  And thanks to Amy Landers for those extra, so needed, strawberries.  Vicki Smith, the Coffee Hour kitchen cleanup person, cheerfully took on FAR MORE dishwasher and sink work than usual.

Lance Goller was your welcoming attendant at the ice cream table, keeping everything well supplied.  He just jumped up and volunteered himself!

Thanks to the Family Ministry children for decorating our tables, and to Sunday Parker for setting up our water table.

With all of our brownie baking, there couldn’t have been another ounce of chocolate, butter or sugar in Henderson County!  Thank you to our brownie bakeoff bakers for providing all that deliciousness:  Wanda Hughes, Charlotte Corrigan, Marlena Sacca, Mary Highberger, and Sharon Latz.

And to all the brownie bakers who supplied brownie deliciousness just for the eating with sundaes…Jan Partin, Peggy Law (who made 3 trayfuls), Laura SchifferliPatty Smith, Becky Reid, and Charlotte Corrigan (who made brownies again!).  I know I’m forgetting someone, please let me know who you are: kuehnbaer@nullgmail.com

And how could we have this function without setup and tear down?  Thanks to my son, Liam, who used some of his time home for the weekend to  help setup tables.  And to Lee Nichols, who was ready to help until a bug got him.  And to Sunday Parker, Laura Schifferli, and Jan and Ron Partin, for jumping in and helping tear down, and sweep.

Thanks to Bill Elder for being event photographer, catching us all with chocolate on our faces.

Finally, a big hug to Wanda Hughes for all her advice, care and crafting touches with the email communications for this event.

Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday, March 3, for another testimonial during service, and the Mirth and Merriment Talent Show.

And if you haven’t already, make your July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2025 pledge to our UU community.  Forms were mailed or are at the Fellowship Hall.

The service was followed by an ice cream social and a brownie bakeoff.

Brownie Bake-off Winner:  Sharon Latz

Sharon is a new member (November 23) of UUFH having joined in November. Her recipe is an adaptation of the 70’s Betty Crocker Cookbook brownie recipe.  In the past Sharon served these to happy eaters at her deli. Sharon’s so pleased to have this recognition from the many happy eaters at our ice cream social and brownie bake-off.

Brownie Bake-off Runner Up: Mary Highberger.

In contrast to Sharon, Mary is a “seasoned” member of our UU community, having been with us for 27 years. Her first Sunday was also Rev. Jim McKinley’s first service. Jim was a former and beloved minister with us until 2019. Mary’s recipe is title-less, but best described as “a decadent chocolate chip brownie”.

Everyone enjoyed the goodies.
