A Word from Don –

In the Interim

Just outside the office is The Tree – the tree that gave shade to our summer services, and is now just past it’s bright autumn glory.

The funny thing about The Tree is, few of us even noticed it’s presence until then. Yet, it was there  all the time. And now that we have, we carry it with us.

While Thanksgiving has rightly become more complicated (seen through the experience of colonization it’s a very different time), there remains the spiritual invitation to find the holy in the daily.

Sometimes that invitation comes in proud, loud form, say sunset from Jump Off Rock. Other times, it comes in whispers. As in an old but kindly tree.

As you go about the winter holidays – whether you receive these days with joy, mixed emotions or deep dread – think about The Tree. About how most of us never saw it, let alone expressed gratitude for it’s being.

I think that’s what the winter holidays offer us, because that’s what I think they’re all about. Just seeing the stuff we’ve been taking for granted.

Take care, take notice.
