MAY OUTREACH COLLECTIONthrough May 31

TrueRidge Crisis Management Fund for Migrant Workers

May is the month for the Outreach Collection to benefit the Crisis Management Fund for Migrant Workers at True Ridge.

This Fund has been active for about 2 years and has been invaluable in many crisis situations.  Examples include:

  • The fund has provided money for emergency medical treatment when none was available from local organizations.
  • Money was quickly obtained to hold rental property as it goes as fast as it comes on the market.
  • We are now working with a family whose mother is in hopes of getting some help for a botched leg amputation and they are living in one small room with only a one burner hotplate for cooking and no transportation until they can get tags and license plate.  We are trying to help them get items to make their lives a little better. The father has been in the hospital but normally is a migrant agricultural worker.

100% of the money goes to help migrant workers.

If you would like your offering to go to this program, please write “Crisis Response Fund” in the memo line of your check. Or, if you are giving cash, please use an envelope (provided in the Foyer), write your name on it, and mark it “Crisis Response Fund”.  You may also contribute through your Vanco account via the UUFH website. Click “Donate” at the top of the website home page and select “Outreach Fund.”

Thank you for your generosity.

UU the Vote Launch: RECORDING & SLIDE SHOW links

Over 700 folks joined our UU THE VOTE 2024 LAUNCH. Thank you. Check out the slide show and recording of the launch below. We are joining State Action Networks and local and national partner organizations – and it will require more of us. As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson with UU Justice NC reminded us, “It is time to go deeper. For most of us, postcarding should only be the appetizer before the meal. This year our moral legacy is on the line. And if we can go further than postcarding, we have a moral responsibility to do so.”

UUFH has a strong history of involvement in the UU the Vote Campaigns in 2020 and 2022.  But we need your help – this requires many hands not just the SJT members.  Kitten Bulen, who led past UUFH campaign efforts. is seeking one or two people to take over leadership under her guidance.
UU the Vote NC launches in early May  – much more to come!
Your SJT is  making plans with partners such as the Henderson County League of Women Voters and You Can Vote.

Come learn about the history, present condition, and opportunities for growth facing the French Broad Paddle Trail in Henderson County and abroad. Placed in the context of challenges from proposed dams, degraded water quality, and short-sighted growth, the French Broad River is an ongoing success story due to the work of passionate local communities, well-organized advocacy campaigns, and strong partnerships between nonprofits, government agencies, and local businesses. The French Broad Paddle Trail focuses on recreational access, stewardship, and information along the river, led by MountainTrue’s French Broad Riverkeeper program, and this presentation will give an overview of the Trail in general, share updates on specific projects occurring here in Henderson County, and inform attendees on how they can get involved and support this work.
