“In media res”: We’re in the Middle of the Story, Longing for Resolution, Renewal, and Transformation

Homer began his epic poems with the phrase “In media res” – in the middle of things. Today we find ourselves in the middle of a lot of things, challenging things: a surging global pandemic, civil unrest in response to the murder of George Floyd, and grave financial uncertainties. And we long for a return to “normal” – whatever that is. But being in the middle of things brings with it an unexpected grace – the opportunity to reimagine our life together, to change things we no longer accept, and to rewrite our destiny. Being in the middle of things might be unsettling, but we are all still capable of influencing the outcome, we are still able to work for a more just, compassionate, kind, and hopeful future. But how do we do that? And how do we take care of ourselves on the journey? Join Lyndon Harris to hear some thoughts about this journey, drawing from many resources.

Lyndon Harris is a forgiveness teacher and coach, and inspirational speaker, having offered keynotes and workshops for numerous conferences around the country and around the world. His work at Ground Zero in New York City has been written about widely, including in The NY Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and Time Magazine. His work on a Garden of Forgiveness for Ground Zero in NYC is featured in the award-winning documentary, “The Power of Forgiveness” (Journey Films: 2006).

Lyndon is currently working with Stanford’s Dr. Frederic Luskin to coordinate a team of researchers, clinicians, and educators in the creation of a public information campaign, called Forgiving Communities, about the public health benefits of forgiveness to bring happiness, resolve conflicts, and live a better, more joyful life. Harris lives in Zirconia, NC, with his wife, Maria, their dog, Maggie, and, most recently, six happy hens.

Until we feel that it is appropriate and prudent for us to hold our worship services in our sanctuary, we are recording our services for viewing via our YouTube channel . We make every effort to make the service available by Saturday afternoon. We encourage you to get to know us via these worship services. And, we hope to see you live and in person in the future!
