Coming to UUFH March 17 – April 7:

MIGRANT FARM WORKERS WELCOME BAG COLLECTION 2024

The 7th Annual collection and bagging of needed supplies to welcome arriving Migrant Farm Workers happens this year in March and April.  At UUFH, we will have a donation location on site March 17 – through April 7 ONLY.  We’re giving you a heads up now to increase your shopping window.

Locally, thanks to your generosity and others in the community, we have gone from filling 100 bags in the first year to 600 bags last year. We are aiming to exceed that number in 2024.

See the current UUFH jUUstice Workers News for detailed information on when, where, and what to donate.

UU the Vote Launch:

Thursday, March 14, 7:00pm ET  by UUA’s Side With Love. Hosted by Nora Rasman, Democracy Strategist, UU the Vote
RSVP: Online event  (NOTE:  you can sign up to receive the event recording too!)
The UUA announces they are entering the work of UU the Vote 2024, grounded in our faith and national community’s current political and spiritual conditions.
The work needed in 2024 will require us to anchor in our power and connect authentically to mobilize UUs, voters, and our local communities. UU the Vote 2024 is an ambitious strategy to grow a powerful pro-democracy majority.
This year, UU the Vote reports they will help build our UU commitment to democratic practices and recommit to showing up for social movements and building infrastructure and relationships to sustain us beyond the electoral year. Join UU the Vote for their launch on Thursday, March 14th, as they highlight their upcoming work.
You’ll learn about UU the Vote work with State Advocacy Networks and their partners in key states, key ballot initiatives, political education, spiritual grounding opportunities, and their mass voter contact program. Join the launch!
P.S. from Rev. Lisa Garcia Sampson – UUJusticeNC:
We’re excited to announce that North Carolina will be featured at the national launch!  Come hear Rev. Lisa preview our partnerships and electoral work in the year ahead.
And later this spring, we are excited to launch our 2024 North Carolina UU the Vote Campaign. During this critical election cycle, we know that hate and anti-democratic values will be on the ballot in our local, state, and national elections. In order for us to powerfully meet the moment, we’ll need to activate more North Carolina UUs than ever before in our history

UUFH & NAACP Trip to International African American Museum,

Charleston, SC — May 4 and 5, 2024 UUFH SJT and the NAACP are co-sponsoring and subsidizing this trip to IAAM.

The International African American Museum is a museum of African-American history in Charleston on the site where Gadsden’s Wharf, the disembarkation point of up to 40% of all American enslaved persons, once stood.  “Ashley’s Sack”, the subject of last year’s UUFH Congregational Read, is one of many items now on exhibit.

We also have plans to visit Mother Emmanuel AME Church for Sunday service.  There will be limited free time available both Saturday and Sunday in the downtown Charleston area. We are now taking registrations for the May 4-5 trip.

COSTS:  $100 per adult and $50 per student includes all bus transportation, admission to the museum, and a Saturday night dinner at UU Charleston.   REGISTRATION DEPOSIT:  $50 per person due NLT March 24. Contact Judy Bonner judybonner1@nulloutlook.com to book your trip now!

NOTE:  This information is based on 50 participants.  If we book 56 (bus capacity) there may be some extra money to subsidize students through scholarships.  Donations would also be welcome to help subsidize trip costs for participants needing financial aid.

In addition, we have made arrangements for a HOTEL group discount: Wyndham Garden, Summerville (~30 minutes from downtown Charleston) at the reduced rate of  $114 per room based on double occupancy – this rate includes buffet breakfast.  Registrants will be given booking information on receipt of trip deposit.  Participants must book directly for their own rooms – this is NOT included in cost of trip.  NOTE:   If participants make other lodging arrangements, they will need their own local transportation.
