SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM (SJT) MEETING

Our next monthly meeting is Tuesday, April 2 at Noon via Zoom

The Social Justice team is a self-selecting group open to all UUFH Members and Friends.  We welcome all active participants.  Whether your social justice interests are one or many, you can contribute to our SJT efforts.  Please contact Charlotte Corrigan for the Zoom link if you plan to attend this meeting.

GS2030 (Green Sanctuary Renewal) is included in our meetings per the Fellowship’s approval of our UUFH Congregational Project for 2023-2024

FRIDAY ACTION HOUR 

Every Friday at 11:00 UUs from across the state gather to recap the past week and take action on the issues impacting our state and country.  In the coming month, we’ll be focusing on the upcoming municipal elections and will also keep the pressure on our elected officials to better promote the HOPE program.  And we always have good music to help us feel the justice movement in our bones!

Coming to UUFH March 17 – April 7:

MIGRANT FARM WORKERS WELCOME BAG COLLECTION 2024

The 7^th Annual collection and bagging of needed supplies to welcome arriving Migrant Farm Workers happens this year in March and April.  At UUFH, we will have a donation location on site March 17 – through April 7 ONLY. 

Locally, thanks to your generosity and others in the community, we have gone from filling 100 bags in the first year to 600 bags last year. We are aiming to exceed that number in 2024.

UU the Vote Launch: RECORDING & SLIDE SHOW links

Last week,  over 700 folks joined our UU THE VOTE 2024 LAUNCH. Thank you. Check out the slide show and recording of the launch below. We are joining State Action Networks and local and national partner organizations – and it will require more of us. As Rev. Lisa Garcia-Sampson with UU Justice NC reminded us, “It is time to go deeper. For most of us, postcarding should only be the appetizer before the meal. This year our moral legacy is on the line. And if we can go further than postcarding, we have a moral responsibility to do so.”  *JOIN UU the VOTE 2024 *Start by downloading our 2024 UU THE VOTE LAUNCH GUIDE. *You can find the full RECORDING and SLIDES of our launch here.  UUFH has a strong history of involvement in the UU the Vote Campaigns in 2020 and 2022.  But we need your help – this requires many hands not just the SJT members.  Kitten Bulen, who led past UUFH campaign efforts. is seeking one or two people to take over leadership under her guidance.

UUFH & NAACP Trip to International African American Museum,

Charleston, SC — May 4 and 5, 2024 UUFH SJT and the NAACP are co-sponsoring and subsidizing this trip to IAAM.

Join Rev. Terry Davis and Judy Bonner!

As part of our congregation’s commitment to work for racial justice, equity, and reconciliation, UUFH will be hosting a weekend trip to Charleston, South Carolina on May 4 and 5 in partnership with the Henderson County NAACP.

In addition to visiting the new International African American Museum, we will have a community dinner and attend Sunday worship services at Mother Emmanuel Church, the oldest African Methodist Episcopal church in the southern United States. All transportation aboard a luxury coach is included. There will be some free time to explore on your own.  We have negotiated a good rate with an area hotel.

The cost of the trip, including museum admission and the Saturday dinner, is $100 per person; $50 per student. Scholarships are available. If you are interested, we need your reservations as soon as possible.
