Peggy and Ed Law – Who Does What

The Laws moved to Hendersonville in 2008. Peggy became a member of UUFH in 2012; Ed joined as a friend and, in 2017, as a member. Though membership came at different times, both hit the ground running! Peggy says, “I am the flash while Ed is the substance.” (She might believe that, but we can attest the two are talented, delightful – and always ready to lend a hand.)

The couple both pursued careers while raising their two daughters. Ed served in the Navy’s Submarine Service for 21 years (and 9 moves); Peggy worked her way up various ladders in financial services. When Ed retired from the Navy, his nuclear engineering background took the couple to Colorado where he began a decade of environmental work clearing nuclear waste at a closed plutonium facility. Ed’s service to our country in both careers is much appreciated. When he retired again, Peggy kept working until her 2009 retirement from Bank of America.

Peggy likes to say she “found her people” when she discovered UUFH and joined within a month. Her leadership skills and knowledge of finance have been real assets to us over the years as she served on our Board of Directors, Finance Committee, Pledge Committee, and, most recently, as Chair of the Personnel Committee.

UUFH has benefitted mightily from Ed’s quiet, competent presence. With an engineer’s mind and an artist’s eye, he has worked on our Photo Team (contributing pictures for website, publicity, and celebrations), co-chaired our Craft Fair, and has grown flowers to share occasionally in the sanctuary. He co-chaired last year’s Yard Sale and has also served on our Concert Committee.

Lately, you most often see Ed sitting at the back of the church on Sunday mornings, operating the sanctuary’s sound board with calm efficiency. During the past year, he has served on the Finance Committee and, as Co-Chair of the Canvass Committee, he helped plan and implement our current pledge drive. And NOW, starting in July, Ed will Co-chair the Membership Team along with Claudia Boozer-Short.

So, please say hello to Ed and Peggy this summer. Bring your membership ideas to Ed, share a laugh with Peggy—and be inspired to lend a hand somewhere you see a need.
