UUFH OUTREACH COLLECTION:  YOUTH HUNGER

On Sunday, November 6 your UUFH Social Justice Team began a new Outreach Collection for Youth Hunger.  Rev. Terry Davis led with a sermon “How the Other Half Eats”.  Following the sermon, Ms. Stacie Marlowe of the Boys & Girls Club spoke about the importance of Feed the Kids and Backpack programs to the youth who attend the Club and others in our community.

In this time of year when we celebrate our blessings, food insecurity remains a significant issue for many in our community.  We all recognize that hungry children struggle to learn and to develop social skills. Providing additional nutritious meals and snacks is the goal of both Collection recipients:  our Youth Hunger Collection is split between the Feed the Kids Coalition and the Flat Rock Backpack Program.

Your donations have provided funding for these 2 organizations each year for more than a decade.  The 11/06 Sunday collection was dedicated to Youth Hunger.  Donations may also be made by check to UUFH (write “Outreach-Youth Hunger” in the memo line) or on your UUFH website account.  The Collection ends on November 27.

UPDATE:  DIVERSITY BOOKS PROJECT Outreach Collection

Our October collection for the Diversity Books Project was a big success.  Thanks to your donations, we collected $2,091.60.  Thanks to our generous, anonymous donor, the $716.50 contributed between 10/17 and 10/31 will be matched bringing the total to $2808.10

Your generosity will fund books for children in Henderson County Schools, the Migrant Education Project of the HC schools, the Boys & Girls Club and others.

Unitarian Universalist Association Transgender Day of Remembrance Service Friday, November 18th @ 4pm ET / 1pm PT via Zoom

2022 has been another deadly year for transgender and non-binary people. The barrage of anti-trans legislation that has been levied against the trans/non-binary community along with a culture of hate that is harming our children is directly responsible for these senseless killings and the dangers the transgender community faces on a daily basis.

As Unitarian Universalists, we share the collective responsibility to build a world that affirms the inherent worth and dignity of all. Our transgender siblings are sacred and divine. Let us honor the inherit worth and dignity of trans people by remembering those we’ve lost and honoring those living among us.

Please join us as we honor the lives lost in 2022 and celebrate the resilience of the transgender community as we grieve together, worship together, and recommit to a moving together in solidarity.

A Critical and Timely Request from our Friends at MountainTrue: We’re in the home stretch of the 2045 Comprehensive Planning process.  In a nutshell, if we don’t have strong land-use policies in place, suburban sprawl will leapfrog its way out into our open space and ruin the rural character that we cherish. Read MountainTrue’s analysis of the draft here: ANALYSIS.
Time is short. MountainTru is looking for letters-to-the-editor writers, public-input speakers, emails to commissioners, and warm bodies to just show up to meetings:  If you are willing to write and/or say whatever resonates with you about the future of Henderson County or maybe find a topic within MtnTru’s analysis, short and sweet will do the trick. For help or more details, contact Nancy Diaz at nancy@nullmountaintrue.org

Commissioner meetings are on Wed. Nov 16th (time and place TBD) and Dec. 5th at 5:30 in the Historic Courthouse. The Planning Board will meet to approve the draft plan on Thursday, Nov. 17th at 5:30 in the 100 N King St meeting room.

Dear friends, We are delighted to share our Annual Report for 2021-2022 with you. As our co-directors, Rev. Leonisa Ardizzone and Rev. Daniel Lawlor, and Board President Rev. Anastassia Zinke share, “we are in awe of the over 9000 individuals connected to our community, the hundreds of congregations that collectively build a witness for climate justice, and the consistent, powerful, persistent showing up in moments of heartache that we receive letters, notes, and encouragement about.”As you look back at the year past, know that we are in a time of deep reflection and preparation for the years ahead. Thank you for your ongoing support of our ministry.
