Join Social Justice Team (SJT)

We meet the first Tuesday of each month from 12-1:30pm via Zoom.

All are welcome to attend. These meetings are your chance to provide input and contribute to our UUFH Justice efforts.  To participate, please e-mail Charlotte Corrigan for the agenda, prior minutes, and Zoom link.

GS2030 (Green Sanctuary Renewal) is included in our meetings per the Fellowship’s approval of our UUFH Congregational Project for 2023-2024:  Green Sanctuary Proposal v2.docx.

2023-2024 OUTREACH COLLECTIONS:   MOUNTAINTRUE

Our new season of 6 Outreach Collections begins this Sunday, October 1; our outreach collection for October supports MountainTrue – complementing our GS2030 Green Sanctuary Renewal Congregational Project.

MountainTrue is a local nonprofit organization that champions resilient forests, clean waters, and healthy communities in the Southern Blue Ridge.  MountainTrue’s Southern Regional Director, Nancy Diaz, will be joining us at our October 1 Sunday Service.

You can continue to contribute each Sunday in October by specifying MountainTrue on the memo line of your check or on the envelope (in the foyer) if you choose to donate cash. And as always, the Donate button on our website is available ( choose Outreach)

These collections and the Board’s “Pass the Plate” Collections put our UU values into actions in our local community and beyond.

UUFH Climate Justice Survey

Our Green Sanctuary Steering Committee is hard at work behind the scenes, currently compiling information for our “Opportunity Assessment,” which will help us determine the most impactful path forward for our congregation.

The UUFH Green Sanctuary Team would love to get a sense of the congregation’s personal actions related to climate change. This is one step in our journey over the next year to assess our opportunities for making a climate justice impact in our community. If you haven’t already, please take a few minutes to fill out this anonymous survey!

PUBLIC SCHOOLS STRONG

A message from Judy Bonner:

Dear Friends,

As many of you already know, education has not fared well in our latest NC legislative season.   To counter this and support honest, accurate, safe, fully-funded public schools, I recently got involved in a new project called Public School Strong, started by HEAL Together NC.  You can learn more about the project here Public School Strong — HEAL Together NC

Can you join us for the next Public School Strong training (1.5 hour ZOOM) to start turning the tide in our state?  After the training, you will receive a free tee shirt and be invited to attend a Board meeting when necessary.

If yes:Here is the link to sign up – (just replace my info with yours and choose a date.)     https://www.mobilize.us/downhomenc/event/557516/

The more that we work together, the greater impact we have.
