UUs in Action: Carl Sandburg Home

Lynn and Steve Weisberg are true Carl Sandburg people! They began volunteering there in February of 2019.

On most Monday mornings you can find Lynn feeding the barn cats, preparing breakfast for the goats, hooking the goats to their feeding troughs (in their designated spaces no less), then feeding them. Then they’re led out into the field where they do what goats do…eat more!  The volunteers clean the barn and do any other chores that need to be done. When visitors come, the volunteers provide education about the Sandburg goats and answer lots of questions.  According to Lynn, the best part is giving the goats as many hugs and head scratches as she wants!

Steve is a docent at the Sandburg house.  While Lynn is frolicking outside with the goats on Mondays, Steve is inside the Sandburg house on Fridays, telling the stories of Carl Sandburg.  Steve also volunteers as a Meals on Wheels driver and can be found at the Boys and Girls Club with our other UUFH Feed the Kids volunteers.

We’re so glad Lynn and Steve found UUFH when they moved to Hendersonville from Mexico. They give back inside and outside our UUFH community.

UUers in Action

As a community of compassionate, caring people, we are everywhere in Henderson County volunteering our time and talents to many worthy non-profit organizations.  We want to highlight our members and friends who regularly give back locally.  Please contact Peggy Law at pegster1128@nullgmail.com so that we can share your good works with everyone and help solicit additional volunteers.
