What If Surrender and Resistance Danced in Harmony?

Lauren explores what might be possible if we viewed surrender and resistance as hand-holding sisters instead of as opposites. She shares observations of other thinkers, along with her own questions, relating to observing with curiosity our instincts to relax into or push against parts of our lives.

Lauren Agrella-Sevilla

Lauren Agrella-Sevilla lives in Brevard with her sweetheart, Matthew, and their two young sons, Asa and Elias. She is an educator who has worked as a school and nonprofit leader, teacher of history and literature, environmental educator, yoga, and mindfulness instructor – pursuits she sees as all intimately connected to what it means to be human. Currently, she teaches and is also a student of social work and of restorative justice practices. She loves the forest, poetry, growing food, riding her bike, traveling, and learning from others about various ways to engage fully and open-heartedly with this life.


MUSICIAN

Michael Jefry Stevens

Mr. Stevens is a accomplished pianist, composer and “Steinway Artist,”. He has released over 80 CDs and composed over 340 works for both large and small ensembles. An active band-leader for over 40 years, his music spans jazz and modern musical styles. Michael lives in Black Mountain and is a frequent performer and popular jazz piano teacher in the WNC area. We, once again, welcome Michael to UUFH as our guest pianist
